Rappelling & Climbing One of the Oldest Mountains in the World - Whiteside Mountain, North Carolina

Come along with us as we hike up to the top of Whiteside Mountain in North Carolina which is said by many to be the world's oldest mountain. Millions of years ago, it once rose to heights like Mount Everest. It is now 4,930 feet high. Once up top, we rig our ropes, and one by one, we rappel off the edge 700 feet down below! After rappelling, we then climb back up the rope!

Please note: We are experiencing cavers and have rappelled and climbed this mountain on numerous occasions. A permit is not required, however, you must observe seasonal closures for peregrine falcons. Whiteside Mountain has seasonal peregrine closures that start January 15 and end August 15, or earlier depending on nest activity. More information can be found on the USFS site.
