Massive Flowstone Draperies Inside this SCCi Cave

Come along with us as we visit this Southeastern Cave Conservancy Cave (SCCi) near the Smoky Mountains here in Tennessee. It has a vertical entrance pit of 130' as well as numerous massive and beautiful flowstone formations inside. Some of the flowstone formations are draperies with some really cool ribbons. There is also a very nice, approximately 60 foot tall column that you can see in the upper level. This cave is formed in the Newala Limestone Formation and is a bit different than the caves we are used to down here in Marion County.

Overall, this cave has a lot of very nice features and interesting things to see inside. One other thing worth nothing is there are what appear to be formations that once formed while under water. They almost appear to look melted! Pretty cool.

Please note, this cave is closed during the winter months for hibernating bats. There is a lot of evidence of bats using this cave. A permit is required before visiting and was obtained for this trip.
