Exploring a Massive 40,000 Foot Long Cave

Come along with Jason, myself, and a few of our good buddies (Robby, JP, & Kim) as we explore a massive 40,000-foot long cave near Sevierville, Tennessee.
After getting a late start we arrived at the cave and met with two of the landowners. They had expressed some interest in going into the cave with us so we spent a little time gearing them up and getting them on rope in a tree for some practice. We then all headed underground. Not far in, we stumbled across something unexpected, an old well casing dropping straight through the cave… definitely not something you see often.
From there, we made our way to an 80-foot vertical pit and rigged up to descend. At the bottom, we pushed on toward a known underground lake, taking some time to check it out before continuing deeper into the system.
We eventually came back past the drop and followed a passage down to the cave’s main stream. By this point, a few members of our group decided to head out, but Jason, JP, and I kept going, pushing farther down the stream passage toward the cave’s second entrance.
Due to time, and with the others already routing out we decided it would be best to come back another day to fully push this cave.
This trip had a little bit of everything, vertical, water, history, and solid teamwork. Hope you enjoy the adventure.
