Join us as my friends Angel, Stanley, and I set out to explore what could be a newly discovered cave in Marion County, Tennessee. Stanley learned about the cave from a local landowner friend and reached out to me to see if it was already documented by cavers. After checking the database of known caves, we found no record of it—so we decided to investigate.
After chatting with the landowner, we made the short but steep hike uphill to the cave’s entrance, located beside a wet-weather streambed. As we stepped inside, we quickly came across the remnants of an old moonshine still, with scattered relics from its operation lying just beyond the entrance. But the biggest surprise was the discovery of several large bear wallows deep inside the cave—a fascinating and unexpected find.
We explored every passage we could fit through, carefully taking in the details of the cave. By the end of our search, we estimated we had covered at least 400 feet of underground passage. While it may not be the largest cave, the mix of history, and the thrill of potential discovery made this adventure unforgettable.
