Come along with me as I walk thru this abandoned train tunnel in Whiteside, Tennessee. This tunnel was named for Colonel James Whiteside and was built in 1858 by the Nashville & Chattanooga Railway. It is approximately 400 feet long and was constructed using large limestone blocks that were hand carved. The tunnel was bypassed by a double track in 1911 and had the buttresses added for strength on the open cut side.
