20-Year Breakthrough: Mapping Past the Tight Squeeze

We’re BACK in Alabama to continue our ongoing cave survey project, and this trip is all about making one final push through the squeeze that has been slowing our progress. This time it's just the three of us, myself, Jason, and Robby, as we head underground determined to reach the other side and continue mapping this incredible cave.

Before we could survey, we still had one major obstacle standing in our way. After spending several hours carefully modifying the tight passage, our hard work finally paid off and Jason was able to squeeze through and reach the passage beyond!

With the route finally open, we were able to begin setting new survey stations and extend the map farther into the cave. Although we only had enough time to collect a portion of the survey before calling it a day, this breakthrough opens the door for future trips to continue exploring and documenting this amazing cave system.

After the long, hot hike back to the truck, we were glad we had parked beside a beautiful creek. It was the perfect way to end the day as we cooled off in the cold water and washed away the mud before heading home.

Every foot of passage mapped is another piece of the puzzle, and projects like this take patience, teamwork, and a lot of determination. We're excited to finally be making progress beyond the squeeze, and we can't wait to see where the cave leads next.
