Searching for a New Entrance to Our Flooded Project Cave!

Join us as we head back to our project area in Franklin County, Tennessee, on the hunt for another possible entrance into the spring cave we began surveying last summer. This is the same cave where a landowner dug open an entrance using a track hoe, allowing us to explore over 3,000 feet of virgin cave and start mapping it. However, with water levels rising during the winter months, our original way in to the cave is currently inaccessible and is flooded until later this summer.

Determined to find a new way into the cave system, we set out on a four-mile hike above the cave, searching for an opening that could bypass the long, low water crawl. Will we discover a way in? Watch along to see what we find!

Cavers prefer to ridge walk (hunt for caves) during the winter months, when the trees have lost all their leaves and the air is much cooler outside. Typically caves will blow air this time of year and they are also easier to spot with less foliage in the woods.
