Extinct Jaguar Remains Discovered in a East Tennessee Cave

Jason and I set out to explore an intriguing cave in East Tennessee, one with an entrance pit that drops down over 100 feet below. After rappelling into the entrance, we encountered a mud slop and then down to a major ledge where we encountered our first amazing discovery: skeletal remains, including a skull which are believed to be from a black bear. Nearby claw marks in the mud wall are silent evidence of a desperate struggle as the animal fought to escape what became a deadly trap. It remains where it fell and eventually perished.
But the most curious find lay even deeper.
Beyond the ledge, and back on rope for another 20 feet down, beneath a massive pile of breakdown rock, another skull slowly revealed itself... Just barely visible from under the rock, more mysterious, and far out of place. This region is home to many cave discoveries, but this one raises an extraordinary question: Could this be the remains of an extinct jaguar? A predator that once roamed this land more than 10,000 years ago?
In this video, we document the descent, the cave itself, and the discoveries found within, while discussing what we know, what we suspect, and what questions still remain unanswered. No conclusions, just exploration, observation, and respect for the underground.
As always, locations are not shared, and all exploration is done with safety and conservation in mind.
