Come along with me, Jason, our good friend Troy, and his two kiddos, Keira and Rider, as we set off to explore several rock shelters on the Cumberland Plateau here in Tennessee in search of Native American Pictographs.

Our day begins with a visit to Hooty, which is believed to be the largest known pictograph in the Southeast, preserved within a rock shelter. After spending time checking out Hooty, we move on to another nearby shelter where we discover markings that may be additional remnants left behind by Native Americans. Could these symbols represent early writing or possibly elements of the Cherokee syllabary? We take a closer look and share our thoughts.

Before wrapping up the day, we visit one final, truly impressive shelter that contains the pictograph known as Dream Weaver.

These places hold deep cultural and historical significance. As always, we explore with respect and care, leaving everything exactly as we found it so these sites can be preserved for future generations.
